ASABA/Nigeria: The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has affirmed the Assembly’s commitment to prioritizing the capacity building of its workforce during the 8th Assembly under his leadership.
The pledge came to light during a meeting with the leadership of the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) at the State Assembly Complex in Asaba.
Rt. Hon Guwor highlighted that the capacity building initiatives would encompass not only the legislators but also their aides and legislative workers in the Assembly. These efforts would be facilitated through regular training and retraining programs.
Stressing the importance of collaboration, Guwor stated that the Delta State Legislature would strengthen its partnership with NILDS to effectively achieve its capacity-building goals. He acknowledged the pivotal role played by NILDS in training legislative staff across the country, and praised the significant benefits that the Delta State Assembly had derived from the institute in the past.
The Speaker’s remarks underscored the Assembly’s eagerness to maintain its fruitful relationship with NILDS and its determination to enhance the workforce’s capabilities. He affirmed that the Assembly considered itself the most vibrant State Assembly in the country due to the wealth of knowledge at its disposal. Guwor emphasized that the House would always be receptive to further training, utilizing the knowledge gained to fulfill its legislative duties.
In her address, Mrs. Rekiya Ibrahim-Atta, the head of training and International Cooperation at NILDS, congratulated Rt. Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor on his emergence as the Speaker of the 8th Assembly. She commended the Delta State Government for its high level of engagement in the training and retraining of its workers, acknowledging the Assembly’s consistent efforts in capacity building.
The meeting concluded with a friendly exchange of souvenirs between Speaker Emomotimi Guwor and the visiting leadership of NILDS. Present at the courtesy visit were the Deputy Speaker, Arthur Akpowhowho, other Principal Officers, and the Acting Clerk of the House, Mr. Otos Aghoghopia.
The partnership between the Delta State House of Assembly and NILDS is poised to continue growing, enriching the legislative workforce and empowering them to better serve the state and its people.
