PDP Delta North Sets Preliminary Guidelines Ahead of Local Government Council Polls

ASABA/Nigeria: Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta North have laid down preliminary guidelines in anticipation of the forthcoming Local Government Council elections in the state. The move comes as the tenure of the current Local Government Council leadership draws to a close on Friday, March 8, 2024.

In a well-attended meeting held in Asaba, Delta North PDP Chairman, Elder Moses Iduh, emphasized the party’s meticulous planning in forming a college of leaders drawn from each of the nine Local Government Areas (LGAs) within Delta North. Their mandate includes specific strategic duties aimed at ensuring effective party management at the grassroots level.

According to Elder Iduh, these leaders are tasked with providing impartial leadership, assisting LGA Chairmen, fostering party unity, identifying and resolving potential issues, and engaging various demographic groups within the party, including non-indigenes, religious groups, support groups, youths (including girls), and women.

Acknowledging the outgoing Local Government Council Chairmen for their commendable performance, particularly in executing people-centric projects, Elder Iduh stressed the importance of upholding zoning or rotational arrangements in candidate selection for the upcoming elections. He emphasized the need for capable, competent, and grassroots-oriented individuals to contest for council positions.

In a departure from past practices, Elder Iduh urged for a majority of councillorship candidates to be youths, highlighting the evolving landscape of Nigerian elections and the necessity for strategic planning for future electoral success. He underscored the importance of meritocracy over nepotism in candidate selection, urging a fair and transparent nomination process.

Looking ahead, Elder Iduh cautioned that the success of the forthcoming council primaries and elections would set the tone for future electoral victories, emphasizing the need for meticulous planning and execution.

In conclusion, he called upon Delta North leaders and stakeholders to embrace forgiveness, tolerance, and unity, hinting at forthcoming strategies aimed at revitalizing the party through increased political activities and rallies across the senatorial district.
