OZORO/Nigeria: Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area, Godwin Ogorugba, has joined thousands of Isoko indigenes in calling on the Inspector General of Police to release detained comedian, Ajirioghene Otagba, popularly known as MC 2Kingdom.
MC 2Kingdom was arrested last Friday by the Nigeria Police Force following a petition by Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) contractor, Matthew Edevbie. His detention, which has sparked outrage, stems from a Facebook video in which he criticized the alleged abandonment of the Isoko 132KVA substation electricity project. The comedian was initially held by the IG Monitoring Unit in Lagos before being transferred to the Maitama Area Command in Abuja.
Ogorugba, in a statement, condemned the arrest, describing it as an attempt to silence legitimate concerns over abandoned public projects. He insisted that contractors handling government-funded projects must be held accountable. “Every public office holder and contractor handling public projects must be subjected to scrutiny to ensure full compliance and completion,” he said. He urged Isoko political leaders and legal practitioners, especially those in Abuja, to intervene and secure MC 2Kingdom’s immediate release.
Reassuring the people of Isoko North of his commitment to their welfare, Ogorugba called for calm, emphasizing that efforts were ongoing to secure the comedian’s freedom. He also encouraged legal practitioners willing to assist in the case to reach out to him or his Isoko South counterpart, Friday Voke Warri, for necessary support.
