
KWALE/Nigeria: Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has assured the people of Ndokwa nation that his administration will not take their support for granted, promising to deliver greater development to the area in the years ahead. According to Galant Reporters, the governor made the pledge on Sunday in Kwale during the inauguration of the new executive of the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU).
Represented at the event by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon. Prince Johnson Erijo, Governor Oborevwori expressed deep gratitude to the Ndokwa people for their unwavering support, particularly their role in securing his victory during the 2023 governorship election. He said the people had further demonstrated their loyalty by giving him a dedicated son, Sir Monday Onyeme, as Deputy Governor, noting that the partnership had greatly aided the delivery of his administration’s mandate over the past two years.
The governor emphasized that his administration’s focus on Ndokwa nation was only just beginning, adding that more projects and initiatives would soon be rolled out to fast-track development in the area. He congratulated Comrade Chief Amechi Asugwuni and other members of the newly inaugurated NNU executive, urging them to live up to the expectations of the people and build on the achievements of the immediate past leadership.
Oborevwori, according to Galant Reporters, reminded the new NNU leadership of the enormous responsibilities their positions carried, encouraging them to work for breakthroughs that would advance the interest of the Ndokwa nation. He assured them of the state government’s continued support for the union’s developmental efforts.
Former Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, who also spoke at the event, commended the new NNU leadership for acknowledging God’s role in their emergence through a thanksgiving service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Cornerstone Province 24, Kwale. Okowa urged them to embrace humility and hard work, while praising Governor Oborevwori for sustaining key infrastructure projects, including the completion of the Asaba-Ughelli road dualisation, the Kwale-Beneku bridge, and the award of the N29 billion Aboh-Akarai road in Ndokwa East.
In his remarks, the member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, described the future of Ndokwa nation as bright, citing the abundance of natural resources and capable leaders. Ezechi expressed confidence in the ability of the Asugwuni-led NNU executive to reposition the union and promised to continue advocating for the interests of Ndokwa people at the federal level.
Addressing the gathering, the new NNU President General, Comrade Chief Amechi Asugwuni, outlined the union’s 13-point agenda, which he said would form the foundation of its development blueprint. He said the new executive had already begun engagements with traditional rulers, community leaders, and host communities to promote collaboration with oil and gas companies operating in the area. Asugwuni reaffirmed the union’s commitment to working closely with the Delta State Government to ensure tangible and visible development across Ndokwa land. He also appreciated former Governor Okowa for his contributions in bringing Ndokwa sons and daughters closer to government.
The event featured the inauguration of 15 committees of the NNU and the ceremonial cutting of a cake to mark the occasion.
