ASABA/Nigeria: The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, has lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his achievements in infrastructure, human capital development, and urban renewal in the Delta State capital, describing his leadership as people-oriented and impactful.

The monarch gave the commendation on Wednesday when he led a high-powered delegation from the Asaba Kingdom on a courtesy visit to the Governor at Government House, Asaba.

Prof. Azinge said Asaba had in recent years witnessed rapid urbanization, improved security, and increased investments across sectors, positioning it as one of the fastest-growing state capitals in Africa.

“The people of Asaba are grateful for the peace, progress, and transformation witnessed in the past two years of your administration. The capital city has experienced exponential growth, and your leadership has been instrumental to this,” the monarch stated.

He also expressed gratitude to the governor for personally presenting him with the staff of office in November 2024, describing the gesture as an honour for both him and the Asaba community at large.

While pledging continued support, the monarch appealed for greater inclusion of Asaba indigenes in government appointments and further interventions in critical areas such as power supply, water provision, road construction, schools, and healthcare facilities. He also called for the resumption of work at the International Conference Centre and the development of a comprehensive master plan for the capital city.

In his response, Governor Oborevwori thanked the Asagba and the people of Asaba for their steadfast support and partnership in governance, emphasizing the vital role of traditional rulers in sustaining peace and unity across communities.

“It is always a pleasure to receive our revered traditional rulers whose wisdom and counsel continue to guide us. Since your ascension, Your Majesty, you have brought peace, unity and cultural pride to the Asaba Kingdom,” the governor said.

He assured that his administration would continue to prioritize the development of the state capital, highlighting ongoing projects including storm drainage works re-awarded to CCECC, the resurfacing of Nnebisi Road with streetlights, and more internal roads under the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency.

Governor Oborevwori further disclosed that the federal government had awarded the reconstruction of the Summit Junction–Head Bridge axis of the Benin-Asaba Highway to Heartland Construction Company, noting that his administration was supporting compensation payments for persons affected by the Second Niger Bridge road project.

Reiterating his commitment to inclusivity and sustainable development, the governor said the capital city would continue to receive special attention as the face of the state.

“Asaba is the face of our state, and we must continue to make it beautiful and secure. Working together with our traditional rulers and communities, we will deliver more projects and ensure peace and progress in our state,” he assured.
