WARRI/Nigeria; Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the South-South region to fully embrace the ongoing digital membership registration exercise, describing it as a transformative step toward modernizing the party’s structure for greater accountability, transparency, and inclusion.
Governor Oborevwori gave the charge on Thursday at the APC E-Registration Hands-On Device/Application Train-the-Trainer Workshop for the South-South zone, held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
He disclosed that Delta State had already commenced the digital registration in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive, with more than 280,000 members successfully registered. According to him, the current phase of the process focuses on validating existing members’ records by linking them with their National Identification Numbers (NIN), while also expanding the register to accommodate new entrants and political groups joining the party.
“This two-day training is very important. It is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the process so that when you return to your respective states, you will be able to train others effectively. For us in Delta, we have moved from the registration phase to validation, while also accommodating new members and political groups merging into the APC to ensure proper documentation,” Oborevwori stated.
The governor expressed confidence in the unity and strength of the APC across the South-South, insisting that there is no stronger political force in the region than the ruling party. He welcomed delegates from Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States, urging them to take the exercise seriously and replicate the training in their various states.
Deputy National Chairman (South) of the APC, Chief Emma Eneukwu, commended Governor Oborevwori for what he described as his “ebullient, purposeful, and commitment-driven leadership,” noting that Delta State has witnessed remarkable infrastructural transformation under his watch.
He conveyed the appreciation of the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who hailed the governor’s leadership style as “exemplary and reflective of visionary governance.” Eneukwu described the digital registration initiative as a landmark innovation in Nigeria’s political process, aligning with global standards of transparency and organizational integrity.
“What we are launching today represents a new chapter in political organization — one that ensures every member is digitally captured, verifiable, and accountable,” he stated.
Deputy National Organising Secretary of the APC, Hon. Nze Chidi Duru, also described the exercise as a major reform in party administration, saying it would enhance internal democracy and strengthen accountability. According to him, the APC is making history as the first major political party in Nigeria to fully implement a comprehensive digital membership system.
Earlier, the Delta State APC Chairman, Engr. Omeni Sobotie, praised Governor Oborevwori for providing exemplary leadership that has made Delta a model of good governance and development. He described the governor as “a rare gift to the South-South and the entire nation,” adding that with his performance, “the APC is unstoppable and any party challenging it will run into a brick wall.”
The event attracted APC leaders from across the South-South geopolitical zone, including state chairmen, zonal coordinators, and stakeholders, who pledged to replicate the training and ensure effective implementation of the digital membership registration process in their respective states.
