OKPANAM/Nigeria: A socio-political organisation, Eziafa Ka Ego Parliament, Okpanam, in Oshimili North Local Government Area, has called on governments at all levels to place greater emphasis on the security of lives and property, citizens’ welfare and inclusive socio-economic development to foster a stronger sense of belonging among the people.
The Speaker of the group, John Ogbogu, made the call in Okpanam shortly after the organisation’s end-of-year thanksgiving service held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Okpanam.
Ogbogu said responsible governance must place security and good governance at the centre of public policy, stressing that all security agencies and architectures must work in synergy to effectively tackle insecurity across the country.
According to him, the core objective of Eziafa Ka Ego Parliament is anchored on unity and the development of Okpanam community and the wider society, noting that the organisation’s membership cuts across indigenes and non-indigenes.
He explained that the annual thanksgiving service was organised to appreciate God for the gift of life and the numerous blessings received in the outgoing year, while also charging members to remain committed to contributing meaningfully to the growth and progress of the organisation.
Ogbogu further advised Nigerians, particularly youths in Okpanam, to shun negative vices such as drug abuse and criminal activities as the year 2026 approaches.
He urged governments at all levels to perform better in the coming year by implementing people-centred policies and programmes capable of positively impacting the lives of citizens.
The group’s leader also stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence among residents of Okpanam, describing peace as an indispensable ingredient for sustainable development.
