Fear Spreads in Ndokwa East After Herdsmen Attack Leaves Family Fighting for Life

Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola

ABOH/Nigeria: Residents of Ibrede and Igbuku communities in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State were thrown into panic on Tuesday following a violent attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on a travelling family, an incident that has deepened insecurity and paralysed farming activities in the area.

According to The Pond News, the attack occurred along the Igbuku–Ibrede road, where a family riding on a motorcycle was ambushed by the assailants. Hon. Reuben Okaroh, a former councillor and father of the victims, told the medium that his son, daughter and wife were brutally attacked, with his children sustaining life-threatening injuries.

Okaroh said the attackers struck without provocation, inflicting severe wounds on his son and daughter before fleeing the scene. He added that it was only by divine intervention that his family escaped death.

“God saved my family from untimely death. My son and daughter are in critical condition, and the trauma is something we may never forget,” he said.

The former councillor appealed to the Delta State Government and security agencies to urgently intervene by flushing out armed herdsmen from the affected communities before the situation deteriorates further.

“I am calling on the government to come to our rescue. The presence of these herdsmen has turned our communities into unsafe zones,” he added.

Following the attack, fear has gripped Ibrede, Igbuku and neighbouring communities, forcing many residents to abandon their farms and suspend travel to nearby towns such as Ofagbe, Ashaka and other surrounding settlements.

Community sources disclosed that a similar herdsmen attack was recorded in Igbuku last week, heightening anxiety and tension across the area.

Residents lamented that repeated attacks by suspected herdsmen have crippled economic activities and threatened livelihoods, warning that unless urgent security measures are taken, the worsening insecurity could spread beyond Ndokwa East to other parts of Delta State.
