
OBIARUKU/Nigeria: The Executive Chairman of Ukwuani Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Ajede Possible, has declared a state of emergency on electricity in the council area as part of urgent measures to address the persistent power challenges affecting communities across the LGA.
Ajede made the declaration during the Executive Council meeting held on March 9, 2026, at the council chairman’s office, where he outlined steps already taken by his administration to improve electricity supply across the nine clans that make up the local government.
The chairman disclosed that his administration has already procured and distributed critical power infrastructure, including transformers, electric poles and other essential equipment, to several communities in a bid to restore electricity and improve the quality of life of residents.
He, however, acknowledged that many communities in the local government area are still grappling with prolonged power outages, stressing that the situation requires decisive and coordinated intervention.
According to him, the declaration of a state of emergency on electricity underscores the administration’s determination to find lasting solutions to the lingering power supply challenges confronting the people of Ukwuani.
Ajede further announced the immediate constitution of a special committee tasked with identifying practical strategies to address the electricity crisis and recommend the most effective course of action.
He directed members of the committee to commence work without delay, emphasizing that restoring stable electricity supply remains a critical priority for his administration.
The council chairman reiterated his commitment to ensuring that all communities within the nine clans of Ukwuani Local Government Area benefit from improved electricity infrastructure, noting that reliable power supply is essential for economic growth, small-scale businesses and overall community development.
