ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has donated five operational vehicles to the Delta State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service in a move aimed at improving logistics, strengthening the justice system and enhancing security operations across the state.
The vehicles, popularly known as “Green Marias”, were presented on Wednesday at Government House, Asaba, where Governor Sheriff Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security and justice institutions.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, the governor said efficient correctional services depend on reliable mobility, noting that the vehicles would improve the command’s operational capacity, supervision and response to official duties.
According to him, the donation aligns with the administration’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, particularly its focus on enhancing peace and security, stressing that although the Nigerian Correctional Service is a federal institution, its role remains critical to maintaining public safety and the rule of law in Delta State.
Oborevwori said the state government would continue to collaborate with federal security agencies in creating a secure environment that supports sustainable development and economic growth.
He also urged officers of the command to ensure proper maintenance of the vehicles and deploy them responsibly in carrying out their official responsibilities.
Responding, the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Mr. Sylvester Nwakuche, represented by the Controller of Corrections, Delta State Command, Mr. Chuke Idoko, expressed appreciation to the Delta State Government for the intervention.
He assured that the vehicles would be effectively utilised to improve the operational efficiency of the command and strengthen service delivery across the state.
