ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has launched further investigations into a suspected illicit drug network following the arrest of a 56-year-old man during an operation at Owa-Abbi in Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Lucky Oyiboka, was arrested on Saturday, August 8, 2026, after operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) raided a location suspected to be used by criminals.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, fdisclosed this in a statement issued in Asaba on Sunday, saying the operation was carried out following what the police described as credible and actionable intelligence.
Edafe said the search of the premises after Oyiboka’s arrest led to the recovery of 21 bags containing weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
According to the police, preliminary findings indicate that the suspect may be involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.
The Command said the investigation has been widened to establish the extent of the alleged operation and identify other persons who may be connected to the suspected drug network.
Oyiboka remains in police custody pending the conclusion of the investigation, after which he will be charged to court, according to the statement.
The operation is part of the Command’s continuing efforts to use intelligence-led policing to disrupt criminal activities and the circulation of illicit drugs across Delta State.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustained operations against criminal networks and called on residents to assist the police with credible information that could aid crime prevention.
The Command assured members of the public that the identities of informants would be kept confidential.
