ASABA/Nigeria: In a renewed drive to tackle electricity challenges and strengthen power infrastructure across Delta State, the Commissioner for Energy, Engr. Michael Ifeanyi Anoka, has taken the frontline in strategic engagements aimed at delivering improved and equitable electricity supply to residents and businesses across the state.

The Energy Commissioner, in a high-level meeting with officials of Benin Electricity Distribution Company, emphasized the urgent need for collaborative solutions capable of transforming electricity distribution and restoring damaged infrastructure critical to economic growth and social stability.

The delegation from BEDC was led by the Regional Head, Curtis Nwadei.

At the heart of the discussions was the rehabilitation of the vandalized NIPP 33kV line connected to the Abraka 33kV feeder, a major electricity infrastructure stretching from Eku to Orerokpe through Abraka. The damaged line has remained a major concern for affected communities and businesses dependent on stable electricity supply.

Speaking after the meeting, Engr. Anoka said the engagement formed part of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration’s broader agenda to strengthen infrastructure and improve the living conditions of Deltans through strategic partnerships and practical reforms in the energy sector.

According to him, the discussions centered on creating workable modalities that would guarantee a fairer and more balanced distribution of electricity across different parts of the state while ensuring that neglected and underserved communities are not left behind.

“Today, I had the honour of receiving representatives of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), led by Regional Head Mr. Curtis Nwadei.

“Our discussions focused on developing effective modalities to ensure a more equitable distribution of electricity supply across different parts of the state. We also deliberated extensively on the rehabilitation of the vandalized NIPP 33kV line linking the Abraka 33kV feeder stretching from Eku to Orerokpe,” Anoka stated.

The Commissioner reaffirmed that the Delta State Government remains committed to sustained collaboration with stakeholders in the power sector to ensure long-term improvements capable of stimulating economic activities, boosting small businesses, and improving the daily lives of citizens.

He disclosed that rehabilitation work on the vandalized infrastructure is expected to commence immediately, while additional meetings and technical engagements have already been scheduled to monitor implementation progress and strengthen institutional cooperation between the state government and BEDC.

Observers say the intervention signals a more aggressive and coordinated approach by the Ministry of Energy under Engr. Anoka’s leadership, especially at a time when many communities continue to battle unstable electricity supply and infrastructure vandalism.

For many residents, the planned restoration of the 33kV line represents more than the repair of damaged cables; it symbolizes hope for revived businesses, safer communities, and a more productive economy powered by stable electricity.

And as Delta pushes forward with renewed determination in the energy sector, Engr. Michael Ifeanyi Anoka appears firmly positioned at the center of a mission designed not just to reconnect power lines, but to reconnect communities to opportunity, growth, and a brighter future.
