ASABA/Nigeria: The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, has convened a high-level meeting with senior police officers across the state, warning against misconduct, incivility and unprofessional behaviour among personnel of the command.
The meeting, held on Sunday, was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, who said the gathering focused on strengthening discipline, accountability and operational efficiency within the command.
According to the statement, the meeting was attended by Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Departments, with the Commissioner stressing the importance of strict adherence to the rules and regulations of the Nigeria Police Force as well as compliance with established Standard Operating Procedures.
Oyeniyi reportedly made it clear that the Force Management would not tolerate excuses from officers who failed to carry out their responsibilities professionally and in line with acceptable policing standards.
Expressing concern over reported cases of incivility by some officers, the police commissioner reminded personnel that policing remained a service-oriented responsibility that required respect, professionalism and civility in dealing with members of the public.
He directed officers to maintain courteous conduct at all times and charged senior officers to take responsibility for the behaviour of their subordinates through effective supervision, guidance and corrective measures where necessary.
The CP also urged commanders to motivate personnel under their supervision, improve morale and ensure that officers projected a positive image of the police force in their daily operations.
He further instructed officers present at the meeting to relay the message across all units and divisions to ensure total compliance within the command.
As part of efforts to improve transparency and public confidence, Oyeniyi directed all senior officers to remain accessible to residents and make their official telephone numbers available to the public to enhance communication and trust-building.
The commissioner also announced the reorganisation of the command’s tactical teams in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, noting that the move was aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness and improving supervision.
The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of conduct, protecting the rights of citizens and ensuring effective and accountable policing across the state.
