ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has recorded major operational breakthroughs in its sustained offensive against crime, arresting twelve suspects and recovering large consignments of illicit drugs and dangerous weapons in two separate, intelligence-led operations across the state.

This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, who said the arrests and recoveries underscored the command’s renewed determination to dismantle criminal networks and protect lives and property.

In one of the operations, operatives of the command’s Buffalo Patrol Team on January 22, 2026, intercepted a green Toyota Sienna at the Head Bridge boundary between Anambra and Delta states while on routine stop-and-search duty.

According to the police, the occupants of the vehicle, all dressed in mufti, claimed they were travelling into Delta State to welcome a visiting religious leader, but a thorough search of the vehicle revealed a cache of concealed weapons.

Recovered items included three pump-action guns, one locally fabricated dane gun, one battle axe and twenty-six live cartridges.

The suspects arrested in the operation were identified as Nwanlioba Ikechukwu Dominic, 62; Agbata Mathew, 35; Osita Chineye, 39; Favour Peterson, 23; Prince Tochukwu, 32; and Clement Nwakwa, 51.

In a related development, operatives of the Ugborikoko Division, under the supervision of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Setemi Agbede-Zoukumor, carried out an intelligence-led raid on January 20, 2026, which led to the uncovering of an organised drug syndicate operating within the community.

A suspected dealer was initially arrested during the operation and later volunteered information that enabled the police to track and arrest six additional suspects believed to be key members of the drug distribution network.

Those arrested were Daniel Ojukwu, Rose Otofi, Osaro Okosu, Maro Ibecham, Fregene Victory and Kevwe Irimoni.

Searches conducted at their residences led to the recovery of large quantities of hard drugs and paraphernalia, including 52 packs of GM Gold Indian hemp, one pack of Canadian loud, 40 packs of Kolorado, 16 sachets of Swinol, 30 tablets of Tramadol, 52 packs of loud and two crushers suspected to have been used for processing and resale.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to sustain its onslaught against criminal elements, saying proactive and intelligence-driven strategies would continue to be deployed to ensure the safety of residents.

He urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and continue to support the police with timely and credible information, assuring that all reports would be treated with strict confidentiality.

Investigations into the two cases are ongoing.
