Delta Police Strengthen School Security, Hold Strategic Meeting with School Heads

A cross section of school proprietors, principals and teachers during the Delta State Police Command’s strategic security meeting in Asaba, where stakeholders deliberated on measures to strengthen school safety amid rising security concerns nationwide.

ASABA/Nigeria: In a decisive move to reinforce public safety and safeguard educational institutions, the Delta State Police Command on December 17, 2025, held a strategic security meeting with heads of public and private schools across the state, amid rising concerns over student abductions recorded in parts of the country.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, the Command said the meeting was convened on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

The meeting, which brought together sixty-two (62) school heads and teachers, also had in attendance the Coordinator of the Safe School Initiative in Delta State, ACP George Efeizomor, alongside key education stakeholders. Discussions focused on strengthening school safety architecture in response to evolving security threats.

Critical issues examined included the need for proper fencing of school premises, installation of surveillance cameras, engagement of local vigilantes, and improved collaboration between school authorities and security agencies. Emerging challenges such as parental interference in school security protocols and the misuse of mobile phones by students during school hours were also highlighted.

Addressing participants, ACP George Efeizomor assured school administrators of sustained police support and emphasized the importance of maintaining direct communication with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders within their jurisdictions. Emergency police control room numbers were shared to ensure prompt reporting and rapid response to distress situations.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, through his representative, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that adequate police deployments, intelligence-led patrols and rapid response mechanisms had been activated across the state, particularly around school environments, throughout the Ember Months.

The Delta State Police Command stressed that the state remains relatively peaceful but urged school administrators, parents and community stakeholders to remain vigilant and continue supporting security efforts aimed at protecting students, teachers and school facilities across the state.
