Delta State Official Expresses Condolences to Governor’s Media Aide on His Mother’s Passing

ASABA/Nigeria: In a solemn and heartfelt gesture, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Mr. Maxwell Awuse, has extended his condolences to Comrade Fidelis Egugbo, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State, on the passing of his mother, Deaconess Mary Egugbo.

Mr. Awuse visited Egugbo in his office, located within the Deputy Governor’s Complex at the Government House in Asaba, where he offered words of comfort and solace during this difficult time.

“Like St. Paul would say, your mother fought a good fight and she has finished the race on earth and gone to where our Lord, Jesus Christ has gone to prepare for her,” the Permanent Secretary said, quoting a Biblical passage. He emphasized that Deaconess Mary Egugbo had reached the biblical age of 70, providing ample reason for her family to find solace and celebrate her life.

Awuse acknowledged the pain of losing a loved one and noted that when it comes to death, acceptance of its reality and prayers for the repose of the departed soul are the only paths for all mortals.

In response to the condolences, Comrade Fidelis Egugbo expressed his gratitude to various individuals, including the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, political appointees, civil servants, and many others who had shown their support to him and his family since his mother’s passing.

He reflected on his mother’s life, quoting Mother Teresa, saying, “A life not lived for others is not a life.” He emphasized that his mother always prioritized helping others, often to the point of sacrificing her own comfort. Her generosity and acts of kindness had left a lasting impact on many, which became more evident to her family after her passing.

Egugbo revealed that the testimonies and goodwill messages from those his mother had touched with her kindness had provided a deeper understanding of her legacy.

The bereaved official expressed his appreciation for the support he had received from the Governor, Deputy Governor, and the community of faith, even though his mother had converted from the Catholic Church to the Grace of God Mission.

He recounted the last day he spent with his mother, on the occasion of Archbishop Margaret Idahosa’s 80th birthday celebration. Despite his Deputy Governor’s concerns about a late-night journey, the strong urge to see his mother prevailed. His gratitude extended to those who had reached out, showing love and care during this trying time.

Egugbo also provided details about the upcoming burial ceremony, which will commence with a Service of Songs on Friday, December 29, followed by interment on Saturday, December 30, in Ugiliamai, Onicha-Ukwuani, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State. He requested continued prayers and support for a successful farewell to his beloved mother.
