In this interview, Mr Omolu talks on his motivation for running for the seat, his chances, leadership, and his party, the labour Party in the state.
Except.
What is your Motivation to represent the people of Ukwuani?
My motivation to run for the state house of Assembly seat is essentially service driving, especially to render services to my people of Ukwuani LGA, with the mindset to ensure that women and youths are empowered, and the youths especially are off the streets, by given them both formal and informal training.
The training will focus on encouraging those that can go to school to learn some vocations and to achieve this, we will setup skill acquisition centre, which will also be useful to those who could go to school, but need other trainings to position them properly, to earn resources that will support their immediate families.
What can you say about the Security Situation in Ukwuani?
Mr Omolu also spoke on the general sThe security is a c critical one that needs to be worked on.The case of Obiaruku as it is today is nothing to write home about. Though Obiaruku may have grown into a more modern town, but that does not call for the loose in security that is pervading the administrative headquarters of Ukwuani LGA.
Obiaruku and its environ is now an area where you cannot move freely, compared to the late 70s and early 80s, when the area was a sweet place to live. “we cannot move freely without been harassed. It is now a place of nightmare” as there is the fear to freely move, rising waves of all different types of crime, the act of intimidation, the worst is the monumental rise in cult activities and groups.
When we were growing up, there was that fear to harm persons in any form, “yes we can get into scuffles, he said but today its beyond that, people now kill and harm with impunity”. There was the fear of the dead, but today it’s no longer so, rather we kill, it is now normal to kill, out of commission and not omission. Fire arms and dangerous weapons are now everywhere”.
These are the things I had seen that is not going well with our people that again, fired my desire to run as a member, representing Ukwuani constituency at the State House of Assembly. And if voted in, I will ensure peace, unity and stability in all our communities, as one of our cardinal objectives is to secure the people of Ukwuani. People will be stopped from intentionally harming their fellow human beings. The idea of allowing the security services to always impose curfew in our communities will be stopped. They (the security services) will be made to do their work of protecting the lives and properties of people of Ukwuani. People should be allowed to do their legal business, especially as most businesses thrive in the nights.
The imposition of curfews has a serious backlash on the economy and people, as even those that may need an urgent attention, like in the cases of the sick is deprived professional attention because of curfew. A lot of the human service delivery is affected, and what again will be the consequence is increase in crime. People die for not getting to the medical personnel’s or complications may arise.
Ukwuani and Past Representations
As individuals, we always have plans, they may have, had plans, and like the present man at the state House of Assembly, he may have done much, his best I may think.
But be it as it may, there are a lot to be done in the area that are not touched. There are barren, arable fields that need to be worked on.
For instance, the infrastructures in the LGA are all bad. The roads, schools, human capital issue, unemployment is ravaging the land. If the roads cannot be tarred, a good representation will ensure that those in charge carry out proper grading of the roads and streets to allow for easy movement. We must have smooth surfaces to move. Schools and our hospitals need to be properly maintained. The youths, women and those that can work must be properly positioned to benefit from the activities of government.
Presently, what we have is that the people of Ukwuani, especially the youths are in different clusters, pursuing their individual agendas. This must stop. They must be made to pursue a collective agenda, and to do this a good leadership structure will be required, which I will bring if elected. The people of Ukwuani will be made to engage in social rewards, and not mainly political rewards.
In the past, we have various competitive programmes, like the Dafe football competition, the festival of Arts and Culture use to be held in Ukwuani. Today all this are no more. There must be productive competition. We have the potentials that are been wasted.
What are the prospects of the party in the forthcoming election?
The Labour Party in his slogan is “Labour to Victory”. It means we have to work to succeed. Our capacity to win is not in doubt. The track records of our leader, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru is well known to the people of Delta state. So our prospects in Ukwuani and Delta state are very bright. Ogboru is a man of integrity. He is a man that believes in the future of the youths. He is a man that is so benevolent. He is a man that is concerned about the welfare of the ordinary man. It is no news that Chief Ogboru had been winning in all elections, but the skewed electoral system, victory in terms of those sworn in as governors had been elusive.
However, this is his time, because we believe INEC is poised to conduct a free and credible election that will be acceptable by all.
Also on my person and chance, I am the candidate to beat. My candidacy has a lot of prospects. The purse and utterances of the people tells you that they want change, and I am that change the people wants. The people since 2011 wanted me there. They had seen me as a man that can be trusted. So to answer your question, my chance in Ukwuani is very bright.
And I have to tell the people to vote by their conscious. They should not vote for those that say they have money, but only go there to work for their goods and not for the common good. They should not be enticed with money to buy their votes. They should rather collect their money if they come to them with money, because the money is their constituency project money, but vote wisely and not because of the money.
