
ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command on Thursday presented cheques totaling over N16.6 million to families of deceased police officers, in a solemn ceremony marking the 2026 National Police Day in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who signed the statement, said the gesture formed part of activities lined up to honour officers who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
The event, held on April 2, 2026, represents the climax of week-long commemorative activities within the state, ahead of the grand finale scheduled to take place at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
A total sum of ₦16,679,749.92 was presented to thirteen beneficiaries, reflecting the Force’s continued commitment to supporting the families of its fallen heroes.
Speaking during the presentation, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, described the occasion as both solemn and significant, noting that it underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to the welfare of its personnel and their loved ones.
He assured the beneficiaries that the Force would not abandon them, stressing that the sacrifices of their departed relatives would always be remembered and honoured.
“The Nigeria Police Force is with you and will continue to support you,” the Commissioner said, urging the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds.
In a vote of appreciation, one of the beneficiaries, Ahanuwa Raphael, who spoke on behalf of others, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta State Police Command for the financial support.
He noted that the gesture would go a long way in alleviating the challenges faced by the families and prayed for continued strength and success for the Nigeria Police Force.
CP Oyeniyi reiterated that the sacrifices of fallen officers remain invaluable and assured that the Force would continue to stand by their families, reinforcing its commitment to duty, compassion and institutional responsibility.
