TO tackle security challenges in the country, the Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has called for synergy in intelligence gathering among security agencies.
Senator Okowa made the call recently in his office at the government house, Asaba when he received the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSDC), Delta State Command, Mrs Beatrice Iraboh.
According to him, “ensure that there is reasonable collaboration and sharing of ideas, particularly when it comes to issues of intelligence gathering and action, you have to be coordinated and obviously the desired results that will be beneficial to all will be achieved.”
The Governor decried the compartmentalization in intelligence gathering and action, saying it is more expensive and less effective.
He asserted, “there have to be synergy and a lot of cooperation if we are going to achieve the desired results, I believe that the more the security agencies work together and see themselves as partners in progress in trying to ensure the security of the state and this nation, the more effective and efficient their result is going to be and I pray that we will be able to achieve the level of partnership and collaboration that will bring peace in the state and the country.”
While commending the NSCDC for being a worthy partner with the Delta State government in maintaining law and order, the Governor assured security agencies operating in the state of his administration’s continuous support for the desired results to be achieved.
He assured that the state will make efforts to provide parking space for impounded petroleum products trucks, and that the NSCDC should speed up the prosecution of offenders to avoid congestion of such parking space with its attendant hazards.
Mrs Iraboh who had earlier disclosed that she was recently posted to the state as Commandant of the NSCDC commended the state government for its assistance to the security agency which has contributed immensely in ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.
