PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Port Harcourt Area II Command, Onne, has recorded its highest monthly revenue collection in history, generating more than N77.3 billion in April 2026 as the command intensifies efforts to strengthen trade facilitation, boost government earnings, and improve operational efficiency at the nation’s seaports.
The landmark revenue performance, announced in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, represents a 70.2 per cent increase when compared to the amount generated during the corresponding period in April 2025, underscoring what the command described as a major breakthrough in customs administration and fiscal management.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Command’s Acting Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I, Paul Istifanus Gimba.
According to the statement, the command generated a total of N77,325,318,984.07 within the month under the leadership of the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Aliyu Mohammed Alkali.
The command described the achievement as unprecedented in the history of the Port Harcourt Area II Command, noting that the revenue figure now stands as a new benchmark for customs operations within the zone.
It attributed the performance to ongoing reforms and strategic policies introduced under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, which are focused on innovation and trade facilitation.
According to the statement, the command has increasingly deployed modern technology and improved logistics management systems to strengthen operational processes, eliminate inefficiencies, and optimise revenue generation.
The statement explained that the adoption of innovative operational models had helped position the Onne Command as a major contributor to national revenue growth and fiscal sustainability.
“By embracing these principles, the Port Harcourt II Area Command has transformed into a critical hub for national revenue optimisation, ensuring that the federal government’s fiscal goals are not only met but consistently surpassed,” the statement said.
The command further stated that one of the key pillars driving the recent successes was the deliberate simplification of customs procedures aimed at promoting ease of doing business within the maritime sector.
It noted that by removing bureaucratic bottlenecks and streamlining cargo clearance processes, importers and exporters now experience faster and more efficient port operations.
According to the statement, the command has also cultivated a performance-driven operational culture where revenue targets are treated as minimum expectations rather than final objectives.
“The record-breaking N77.3 billion generated in April is a testament to this proactive stance on revenue collection,” it added.
The statement also credited the achievement to the commitment, professionalism, and discipline of officers and personnel of the command, whom Comptroller Alkali commended for their dedication to duty.
The Customs Area Controller reportedly described the revenue feat as a collective accomplishment made possible through teamwork, integrity, and a balance between strict security measures and efficient trade facilitation.
“The achievement of N77.3 billion in a single month serves as a clear indicator that the Port Harcourt II Area Command is a vital engine for Nigeria’s economic growth,” the statement quoted him as saying.
It added that the command remained committed to surpassing existing records, improving operational processes, and contributing significantly to the nation’s treasury through enhanced customs administration.
The statement expressed optimism that under the leadership of Comptroller Alkali and the policy direction of the Comptroller-General, the Onne Command would continue to serve as a model of efficiency, transparency, and economic impact within the Nigeria Customs Service.
