Onyeme links Delta’s improved finances to Tinubu’s economic reforms

Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, with traditional leaders, community representatives and members of the medical team during the free medical outreach organised by Sir Anthony Chukwu for residents of Ward 10, Oshimili South Local Government Area, to mark his birthday.

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, has attributed what he described as improved financial resources available to the state to the economic policies of the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Onyeme spoke on Monday in Asaba during a free medical outreach organised by the Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Non-Indigenes, Sir Anthony Chukwu, for residents of Ward 10, Oshimili South Local Government Area, to mark Chukwu’s birthday.

The Deputy Governor said the increase in federal allocations had strengthened the state’s financial position and enabled the Delta State Government to pursue its development agenda.

“Governor Oborevwori is also doing very well because there is money. Our allocation from Abuja has increased, and who made that possible? President Tinubu,” Onyeme said.

He described Tinubu as a “champion of reforms” and said he believed the President was working to make the Nigerian economy more functional.

Onyeme also defended his support for the President, noting that his position was not based solely on his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I am proud to be a member of the APC, very proud, because when you see who knows how to work, the best thing to do is to support the person and our President knows his job,” he said.

The Deputy Governor cited the change in fuel supply as another development he associated with the Tinubu administration, recalling periods when motorists spent long periods queuing for petrol.

He said Nigerians should recognise what he regarded as positive changes under the current administration and support the reforms.

Turning to the immediate purpose of his visit, Onyeme congratulated Chukwu on his birthday and commended him for using the occasion to provide healthcare assistance to residents of his community.

Chukwu organised the outreach as part of activities marking his birthday and distributed 250 medicated eyeglasses to beneficiaries in Ward 10.

Onyeme described the intervention as an example of community-oriented service and said it was consistent with the Delta State Government’s M.O.R.E. agenda.

Chukwu said the medical outreach was intended to reach residents who needed medical attention and provide assistance to people who might otherwise have difficulty accessing healthcare.

He said his previous birthday celebrations had also been used for community interventions, including the construction and commissioning of boreholes, empowerment programmes and the distribution of rice and other items.

The leader of the medical team, Dr. Anthony Okwunze, who is also Permanent Secretary in the Delta State Ministry of Technical Education, said beneficiaries underwent medical screening and received treatment and medication where necessary.

According to Okwunze, the medical team conducted tests for malaria, hypertension and blood sugar levels, alongside checks for other general health conditions.

He said the exercise also included the distribution of 250 medicated eyeglasses to residents.

Residents who spoke during the event described Chukwu as a grassroots politician who remained connected to the people and commended his decision to mark his birthday with a community intervention.

The event combined the Deputy Governor’s comments on the Federal Government’s economic reforms with a practical healthcare intervention that brought medical screening, treatment, medication and eye-care support to residents of Ward 10.
