PORT HARCOURT: The Rivers State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has categorically distanced itself from a recent press statement credited to one Mr. Igwe Sunday Ohahuru, who it said falsely parades himself as Chairman of the party in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Chief Leader Sampson, the party declared that, “for the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Igwe Sunday Ohahuru is not a member of the African Democratic Congress and does not hold any office or authority to speak for or on behalf of the party at any level.”
The party described Ohahuru’s actions and statements as part of what it termed a calculated attempt by political infiltrators and their agents to create confusion, mislead the public, and destabilize the duly constituted structures of the ADC in Ikwerre Local Government Area and Rivers State at large.
According to the statement, the recognised and authentic Chairman of the ADC in Ikwerre Local Government Area is Mr. Temple Chinedu Egwenike, whose leadership, it said, remains legitimate, constitutionally backed, and fully recognised by the party.
The Rivers ADC further alleged that the circulation of false claims, unauthorised directives, and attempts to intimidate party members amount to political sabotage aimed at weakening what it described as the growing acceptance of the party as a credible alternative political platform in the state.
While reaffirming its commitment to peaceful democratic engagement, the party warned that it would not allow impostors, political jobbers, or external agents to undermine its integrity and internal democracy.
The statement also placed the Nigerian judiciary on notice over what it described as credible information suggesting that Ohahuru and his alleged sponsors were boasting about plans to procure questionable court orders to trigger political crisis and legitimise illegality.
“The judiciary, being the last hope of the common man, must not be manipulated or used as an instrument for political destabilization or partisan interference in the internal affairs of political parties,” the statement read, urging the courts to remain vigilant and ensure that justice is both done and seen to be done in line with democratic principles.
The party equally called on relevant security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, to closely monitor the activities of those it described as impostors and their sponsors in order to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
The ADC Rivers State Chapter also encouraged its members, supporters, and residents of Ikwerre Local Government Area to remain law-abiding and steadfast, particularly in participating in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise, which it described as a vital democratic process.
Reiterating its broader political vision, the party said it remains focused on building strong, credible, and people-oriented leadership structures across all 23 local government areas of Rivers State, as it continues to position itself as a formidable platform for progressive governance.
