No fewer than four people sustained injury and been hospitalized following the stampede that greeted the money dropped to the youths by His Excellency Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan after the official commissioning of the newly reconstructed Dom Dom Mingos Secondary School Warri.
The Community youths which are made up of Edjeba and Okere-Urhobo Community, expressed displeasure over the way and manner the money was given to them by the Governor as it has generated crisis between the two neighbouring Communities. Noting that the gift was like a set up from the Governor as it has resulted to violence instead of the peace they have been enjoying before the official Commissioning.
“The Governor should have put the money in the hands of the leaders of the various Communities instead of dropping it in the crowd. So it would have been better if he did ot give us anything.” Said one of the Community youth, while others were saying the Governor employed the best approach in giving out the gift as the crowd was too huge for the Governor to manage at that time.
Although the total amount of the money given to them by the Governor could not be said by any of the youths as it was rushed and scattered by different people, other eyewitnesses were predicting between five hundred thousand to one million naira. As various people were seen running away with their own share of the money.
The stampede which later escalated into the major road of Edjeba then to the popular airport road, leading to heavy traffic, was later brought to rest following the intervention of the various Community leaders who pleaded for calm amongst them, noting that the various thieves amongst them will be brought to book within a short while.
Meanwhile his Excellency Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has received commendations from various people who witnessed the events, saying that it was signs that he was finishing strong than he met the state.
