OBIARUKU/Nigeria: To reecho the effect on the Humane Immune Virus/Acquired Immune Defiance Syndrome, Aids, scourge in the country, had again brought to limelight during the celebration of the 2019 World Aids Day, with the Theme: Communities Make the Difference”, a Non Government Organisation, Centre for Education Development and Skill Acquisition Initiative (CEDESA), had called on Nigerians to see the fight against the scourge as a war that must be sustained, and won.
Speaking at the event for this years celebration in Obiaruku, Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta state, the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of CEDESA, Mrs Olorunke Ugbe noted that the World Aids Day was established by the United Nation to be celebrated in other to exchange ideas on how far the fight against the HIV epidemic has gone and what is yet to be done to eradicate or curtail the spread to communities, and to create awareness of what HIV is all about and how best to prevent its spread in the community.
She reminded the audience, that the scourge is still much prevalence in the country, and it’s the duty of everyone to ensure that efforts are made to reduce the spread with focus on total eradication in the communities across the country.
Speaking during this years celebration, the Medical Director, Dominion Care Medical Center, Obiaruku, Dr. Moses Ebeye, who was the Guest Lecturer spoke on the ABC on how to stay safe, which includes Abstinence, faithfulness and use of Condom.
He advised that in order to stay safe, that it is best to abstain from sex while married men and women should be faithful to their partners. He also warned that care should be taken in handling blood and other bodily fluids especially when there is open cut in the hand of the person giving care.
While answering questions from participants, Dr Ebeye advised men to get clippers for barbing and shaving while women should not share needles while making their hairs.
Highlights of the celebration were play let on learning to say NO; presentation of certificates to participants and CEDESA Facility tour. During the tour, Mrs Ugbe called for support and partnership from well meaning individuals, local and international organizations, religious organizations and the community in order to effectively drive home the goals of the organization.
