Oko community at the bank of River Niger in Delta state is one of the communities that has fallen victim to the effect of rise in the water level as the entire community is now under water.
Report from the area, which is the home town of Chief Edwin Uzor, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in the state, has it that the community which was one of the affected towns during the 2012 flood disaster, has suffered a huge economic loss as most of the farm lands and residential houses had suffered the effect of the risen water level.

According to our correspondent, the only primary and secondary schools in the area are now under the water, while the entire economic activities is now grounded, and the people are praying that the 2012 disaster should not happen in 2015.
The situation in Oko, may be different compare to Ndokwa East, as neither the state government nor the Oshimili LGA, at the time of going to press has made any provision to evacuate the residents, as the supposed government IDP centre at St. Patrick Grammar School, Asaba, is yet to be operational, more than 72 hours the first victims of this year’s flooding were evacuated to Ashaka.
The people of Oko, through the Chairman of the community, Mr Jideofor Anosike, lamented the neglect of the area and condemned the Okowa’s government lack of swift action to evacuate the people and making adequate preparation for the flood.

However, Mr Anosike has called on God fearing Deltans to come to the aid of the community, pointing out that the people, despite the global and national warning did not evacuate earlier, because there was no place for them to go, and the people also had not forgotten the inhumane manner they were treated during the 2012 flood disaster.
