KANO/Nigeria: Comptroller Ibrahim Chana, overseeing the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) at the Kano/Jigawa Area Command, recently highlighted the command’s intensified efforts towards promoting trade, incentivizing compliance, and bolstering the economic landscapes of Kano and Jigawa states. Chana emphasized these initiatives in a statement released on Sunday from Lagos.
One of the focal points of Chana’s address was the robust awareness campaign surrounding the Fast Trade 2.0 programs. Aimed at enhancing trade, rewarding adherence to regulations, and bolstering the economies of the aforementioned states, this initiative has been a cornerstone of recent engagements undertaken by the command.
Chana underscored the significance of compliance, emphasizing its pivotal role in establishing a solid foundation of integrity within the business realm. The Fast Trade 2.0 program, he explained, is poised to acknowledge compliance and expedite trade operations, prioritizing traders based on their commitment to regulations and their contributions to Nigeria’s trade landscape.
During his recent visits to various stakeholders including manufacturers and importers in Kano and Jigawa, Chana reiterated the importance of adopting compliance as a fundamental aspect of business ethics. Notably, he visited establishments such as Pop Cola Beverage Factory, MC Plastics, and Ammasco Oil Manufacturing Company, commending their efforts and sensitizing them to service features like the Fast Track 2.0 option, designed to optimize and streamline trading activities.
Highlighting the command’s exceptional performance, Chana revealed that the November revenue marked a historic achievement, reaching a staggering N6.9 billion, the highest recorded revenue in its history. Expressing confidence in further progress, he anticipated continued success in revenue collection for the remaining part of 2023 and projected greater accomplishments in 2024.
Comparing this year’s revenue achievements to the previous year’s records, Chana disclosed an impressive surge. The command witnessed a substantial increase from N2.4 billion in October 2022 to a remarkable N5.6 billion in the same month this year, signifying a substantial 126.9% growth. This exceptional trajectory culminated in November 2023, where the command shattered records with an unprecedented revenue collection of N6.9 billion.
The Customs Area Controller remained optimistic, assuring stakeholders and the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to enhancing revenue generation, facilitating trade, and fortifying anti-smuggling endeavors as it moves forward.
