ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the protracted electricity crisis in Ndokwa Nation, assuring residents that concrete measures are underway to restore and sustain power supply in the area.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, gave the assurance during a press briefing on Wednesday in Asaba, while addressing concerns raised by protesters under the Light Up Ndokwa Nation campaign. Flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, and the Executive Assistant on Public Enlightenment, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, Aniagwu said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration is taking decisive steps to address the challenge.
Aniagwu explained that while power generation and distribution had long been under federal control, recent reforms have opened opportunities for state-level intervention. He highlighted ongoing efforts, including mandates given to Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, an indigene of Ndokwa to liaise with relevant stakeholders and fast-track reconnection to the national grid.
“Meetings have been held to resolve issues between the defunct Power Holding Company and Benin Electricity Distribution Company on outstanding liabilities, and plans are on to rebuild vandalized infrastructure and reconnect our people,” Aniagwu said.
He appealed for patience, noting that the Oborevwori administration has demonstrated genuine commitment to the development of Ndokwa Nation through key projects. These include the N29 billion Aboh-Akarai Road and bridge, completed Beneku bridge, and multiple road projects across Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, and Ukwuani.
Aniagwu urged residents to appreciate these efforts and not be swayed by misinformation. “Governor Oborevwori has shown love for Ndokwa Nation, and his administration will continue to do more in infrastructure, security, and human capital development,” he said.
He assured that more transformative projects are on the way, as the state government intensifies efforts to improve the quality of life for all Deltans.
