ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed profound grief over the passing of veteran journalist and publisher, Pa Joe Onyibe, describing his death as a significant loss to the journalism profession, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Ika nation, and Delta State at large.
In a condolence message released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori extended heartfelt sympathies to the Onyibe family, the Ika community, and the wider media fraternity. He noted that the late Pa Onyibe played a pivotal role in the development of grassroots journalism and public enlightenment through his long-standing publication, Ika Voice Newspaper.
The Governor praised Pa Onyibe’s lifelong dedication to truth, fairness, and community advocacy—qualities that earned him widespread respect within and beyond Delta State.
“Pa Joe Onyibe, who died at the age of 90, was a trailblazer who used journalism to amplify the voices of his people and advance the cause of good governance and social justice. His death is indeed a monumental loss,” Oborevwori stated.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed journalist’s soul and encouraged the Onyibe family, the Ika nation, and the NUJ, Delta State Council, to take comfort in the rich legacy he left behind.
Governor Oborevwori also urged young journalists to emulate the late icon’s unwavering commitment to ethical journalism and his service to humanity, noting that such virtues remain crucial in today’s media landscape.
