ASABA /Nigeria: The Director-General of Delta State Bureau of Communications, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has dismissed allegations that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is “wasting” the Urhobo slot in the state’s power rotation, insisting that the governor’s achievements are already cementing the pride of the Urhobo nation and Delta State at large.
Oghenesivbe, reacting to a social media post by activist Israel Akpodoro, said Governor Oborevwori will continue to govern equitably without resorting to “loud ethnic chauvinism” that undermines peace, justice, and unity in the state.
“Governor Oborevwori is a proud and illustrious son of the Urhobo nation, but he is not favourably disposed to actions or inactions that reflect ethnic bigotry or undermine the overall development of Delta,” Oghenesivbe said.
Highlighting the governor’s strides, he listed Delta’s ranking as Nigeria’s fourth-largest economy, massive investments in agriculture, energy, sports infrastructure, and ongoing mega road projects — including Julius Berger–handled flyovers in Delta South, Delta North, and Delta Central.
The communications chief also noted that more than 850,000 Deltans have benefited from social investment schemes under the Oborevwori administration, while youth empowerment initiatives through vocational training and starter packs have lifted thousands out of poverty.
He emphasized that beneficiaries cut across all three senatorial districts, including Delta Central where the Urhobo people reside, stressing that the governor’s legacy will be a source of pride to both the Urhobo nation and the entire state.
“All the legacy projects and achievements of Governor Oborevwori from 2023 to 2031 will be credited to the Urhobo slot in governance,” Oghenesivbe said, adding that constructive criticism is welcome, but “baseless allegations” like Akpodoro’s only mislead the public.
He assured Deltans that the governor will not ignore any ethnic nationality or constructive advice, reiterating that Oborevwori’s leadership style prioritizes equity, good conscience, and the collective progress of all Deltans.
“Sheriff Oborevwori is governor for all Deltans. He is not willing to play the ethnic card. His leadership style is unique, people-oriented, and anchored on the fear of God. The dividends of democracy — the Ukodo — will surely go round,” Oghenesivbe said.
