ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has begun tightening security around financial institutions in the state ahead of the festive season, with a strategic meeting held between the Commissioner of Police and members of the Bankers’ Forum.
The meeting, convened on September 23, 2025, in Asaba, brought together the Chief Security Officer of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Asaba, Mrs. Evangeline Patrick, and 39 heads of banks operating across the state.
Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda said the forum was aimed at reinforcing security measures in and around banks to deter criminals who may want to exploit the busy ember months.
DCP Adejobi noted that the yuletide period has historically witnessed an influx of people into Delta State, which often comes with heightened criminal activities. He stressed the importance of installing advanced and functional CCTV cameras in banking environments, saying such technology would provide vital support to police efforts in monitoring activities and deterring crime.
Mrs. Patrick, the CBN Chief Security Officer, commended the police command for the initiative, adding that banks that fail to comply with required security measures, including armed police escorts for specie movement, would not be cleared to receive cash allocations.
Reiterating the command’s commitment, DCP Adejobi assured bankers that the police would sustain proactive operations across the state, describing the meeting as “just a tip of the iceberg” in measures already being rolled out to ensure a crime-free festive season.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the development, said the command will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to secure lives and property in the ember months and beyond.
