ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday advanced his administration’s drive for industrial transformation with a strategic meeting with the Jampur Group, focusing on power generation, renewable energy, and fertilizer production.
The talks, held at Government House, Asaba, explored concrete investment plans to boost electricity supply, establish a fertilizer blending plant, and drive renewable energy adoption through solar panel manufacturing. The governor said the projects, if actualized, would accelerate Delta’s industrial base, create thousands of jobs, and expand revenue streams.
“We had a very successful meeting with the Jampur Group. We discussed gas-powered electricity, from production, transmission, and distribution, to ensure Delta State is not only energy-sufficient but also able to power its growth,” Oborevwori said after the engagement.
The proposals include a 100-megawatt floating power board similar to a model already in Lagos, smart metering systems for homes and industries, and renewable energy initiatives. According to the governor, his economic management team has been directed to work closely with the Jampur Group to identify viable areas of partnership.
Jampur Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohammad Shafiq, described the engagement as “very promising,” adding that Delta was chosen because of its enabling environment and the opportunities created by Nigeria’s new Electricity Act of 2023, which empowers states to generate and regulate their own power.
“Power is the key to unlocking economic growth, and Delta has the potential to lead in this area. Investments in reliable electricity will boost industries, spur demand for smart meters, and create massive employment opportunities,” Shafiq explained.
The initiative, part of Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, is expected to transform Delta’s agricultural and industrial landscape, strengthen its energy sector, and drive inclusive growth for citizens.
