LAGOS/Nigeria: In a bid to strengthen public understanding and reporting of Nigeria’s tax reforms, the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee has launched the Excellence in Tax Reform Reporting Award for journalists and influencers. The initiative aims to recognize accurate, balanced, and impactful coverage of the nation’s ongoing fiscal policy transformation.

Announcing the award on Friday, Taiwo Oyedele, Committee Chairman, stressed the critical role of the media in shaping public perception and building confidence in government policies. “By equipping and rewarding journalists and influencers, we aim to ensure that the tax reform conversation is constructive, inclusive, and anchored in truth,” he said.

The award is open to Nigerian journalists across print, broadcast, and digital platforms, as well as bloggers, podcasters, and online influencers. Eligible entries include works published between 1 July and 31 December 2025, in English, Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, or Yoruba, with translations required for local languages. Video or podcast submissions must not exceed 10 minutes.

Prizes are structured to reward excellence, with ₦10 million for first place, ₦5 million for second, ₦3 million for third, and ₦1 million consolation awards for the top 20 finalists. Winners may also receive training fellowships and gadgets, while entries will be judged on accuracy, fairness, clarity, public engagement, and creativity.

The awards gala will be held in either Lagos or Abuja and may be broadcast live on major television networks with online streaming. Applications will open by the end of the year via fiscalreforms.ng, and updates will be shared on social media using the hashtag #ExcellenceInTaxReporting.

Oyedele concluded that the initiative is a strategic effort to counter misinformation, elevate public discourse, and ensure citizens understand and benefit from Nigeria’s new tax regime.
