
ASABA/Nigeria: The Technical Committee on the Creation of Anioma State has announced a change in leadership following the voluntary resignation of its erstwhile chairman, His Royal Majesty, the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Azinge.
In an official statement issued by the Secretary of the Committee, Sir (Prince) Clement N. Okonjo (JP), the Asagba of Asaba formally communicated his decision to “excuse himself from participating as Chairman, Technical Committee of the Proposed Anioma State,” effective November 21, 2025. His withdrawal was conveyed through a royal post shared on the committee’s platform.
The development has been acknowledged by the Senator representing Delta North and chief advocate for the creation of Anioma State, Prince Ned Nwoko, who expressed appreciation for the monarch’s invaluable contributions to the advancement of the initiative. Senator Nwoko also extended his goodwill to the traditional ruler.
In a swift restructuring move, the committee announced the appointment of His Royal Majesty, the Obuzor of Igbuzor, Prof. Louis Chelunor Nwaoboshi, as the new chairman. A renowned professor of history with over four decades of academic distinction, Prof. Nwaoboshi has played a significant role in the advocacy for Anioma State creation and has served actively as a consulting member of the Oduoma Club.
According to the committee, his appointment is expected to bring renewed vigour to the campaign for Anioma State, leveraging his decades of experience and deep commitment to the Anioma cause.
