Oborevwori Orders Screening of Political Appointees, Verification Committee Releases First List

Governor Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has announced the commencement of screening for political appointees, following the approval granted by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and an earlier directive issued by the Secretary to the State Government on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by the Secretary of the Verification Committee, Mr. Felix Irevwi, the government disclosed the first categories of political appointees scheduled to undergo the verification exercise as part of efforts to regularise appointments and strengthen administrative accountability in the state.

Those listed for the initial phase of screening include Executive Assistants, Senior Special Assistants, and Special Assistants, including aides attached to Honourable Commissioners, Special Advisers, chairmen and members of commissions, boards, parastatals and agencies, as well as aides to other senior political office holders. Political appointees serving in the Delta State House of Assembly, excluding domestic staff, are also captured in the first batch.

The committee clarified that the screening timetable earlier announced by the Secretary to the State Government remains unchanged, and all affected appointees are expected to comply strictly with the schedule.

According to the statement, the exercise will take place at the Press Centre, behind the Chapel, at the New Government House, Asaba, between 11.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m. on their respective scheduled dates.

Appointees are required to present the original copy of their letter of appointment, a valid voter’s card and a valid Delta State Government identity card at the venue for verification.

The committee, however, noted that political appointees in the State House of Assembly are not expected to attend the screening on the scheduled dates, as their specific dates will be communicated to them through the Clerk of the House. Appointees on Diaspora Matters and Affairs have also been exempted from the exercise.

For further clarification, the committee advised concerned appointees to contact the designated enquiry lines on 09037437233 and 08037785862.

The screening exercise is part of the Oborevwori administration’s ongoing efforts to streamline governance,
