ASABA/Nigeria: The South South Zonal Executive Council of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools has announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of the Delta State Executive Committee of the association, citing what it described as gross misconduct and grave violations of its constitution.

The decision was contained in an official notice jointly signed by the Zonal President, Ochuko Akpeme, alongside other zonal officers, following what the council said was a formal review of the state leadership’s conduct under provisions of the NAPPS Constitution 2023 (as amended). The suspension was disclosed to journalists during a press briefing in Asaba on Monday.

According to the council, the dissolved executive led by Precious Young was found to have violated several constitutional provisions, including Article 96 Part B (ii), (xii) and (xiii), as well as Article 24 (iv), breaches it said strike at the core of the association’s governance standards and disciplinary framework.

The statement listed allegations against the suspended officials, among them unlawfully presenting themselves as a neutral body separate from the association, acts of insubordination to constituted authority, and dissemination of misleading information to members. It further accused the leadership of taking decisions beyond its constitutional powers and engaging in actions capable of jeopardizing the unity and interests of the association.

Additional infractions cited include failure to remit zonal and national dues and the production and publication of materials in the association’s name without authorization from the National Executive Council. The council said these actions created confusion among members and undermined confidence in the association’s leadership structure.

“As a result of these violations and in line with sanctions clearly provided in the NAPPS Constitution 2023 as amended, we hereby invoke disciplinary measures and suspend the Delta State Executive members indefinitely,” the statement read.

The zonal body directed all affected officers to hand over NAPPS documents and properties in their possession to the Zonal President within three days of receiving the notice, warning that any official act carried out after receipt of the directive would be deemed null, void, and subject to criminal interpretation.

To prevent an administrative vacuum, the council confirmed that an Acting Delta State Executive Committee would be nominated and inaugurated to oversee the affairs of the state chapter pending further decisions.

Despite the disciplinary action, the council acknowledged what it described as the earlier good intentions of the suspended officials and wished them well in their future endeavours.

Other signatories to the suspension notice include Victoria Odubo, Board of Trustees representative; Margaret Ebowe; Egre Mike Nshum; and Joy Okoye, indicating broad zonal endorsement of the action.
