ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has announced an immediate statewide enforcement operation targeting traffic violators and related offences, warning motorists and road users to comply strictly with regulations or face swift prosecution.
The directive was conveyed in an official statement signed by SP Edafe Bright, who disclosed that the action follows confirmation from the Delta State Judiciary through the Office of the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice, Delta State on behalf of Hon. Justice T.O. Diai that designated Mobile Courts are now operational across multiple jurisdictions in the state.
According to the police, the courts are empowered under existing laws to summarily try traffic offenders and other violators, a development expected to fast-track prosecution and strengthen deterrence. The Command said enforcement patrols and surveillance would be intensified along major roads and urban centres including Asaba, Warri, Effurun, Sapele, Ughelli and Agbor, as well as other locations across the state.
The offences listed for immediate arrest and prosecution include reckless driving, driving against traffic, use of unauthorized number plates, operating vehicles without registration numbers, illegal use of sirens or revolving lights, obstruction, and other violations of traffic regulations. The Command warned that there would be zero tolerance for traffic indiscipline, obstruction of law enforcement personnel or attempts to evade arrest.
Police authorities stressed that the measures are not intended to punish residents but to restore order, improve road safety and safeguard lives and property. Law-abiding citizens, the statement noted, have nothing to fear, while offenders should be prepared to face the full weight of the law.
The Command added that under the leadership of CP Aina Adesola, it remains committed to enforcing the rule of law and maintaining public safety across the state.
