SAPELE/Nigeria: Senator Ede Dafinone has declared that unity now defines the All Progressives Congress in Sapele following the party’s Ward 1 Congress, describing the exercise as peaceful, inclusive and devoid of dissent.
The lawmaker, who represents Delta Central, said the consensus outcome emerged after extensive consultations among local stakeholders. Though absent from the venue, he noted that he received real-time updates throughout the process and urged dissatisfied members to embrace dialogue. He stressed that party cohesion remains essential to electoral success, adding that unity would strengthen efforts to secure victories for all APC candidates in future polls.
Applauding proceedings in Ward 1 and across other wards in the local government area, Dafinone said the announcement of results was greeted with unanimous approval. According to him, there were no protests or dissenting voices, a development he described as evidence of a new era of cooperation within the party’s grassroots structure.
He characterised the development as a decisive shift from past internal divisions, stating that the era of fractional alignments within the party had ended and that members were now working collectively under one platform. He added that both former opposition members and longstanding APC loyalists participated actively in the process, reinforcing the spirit of inclusiveness.
The senator explained that leadership positions in Ward 1 were deliberately distributed across different units to ensure balanced representation and mobilise the strongest grassroots team ahead of elections. He attributed reports of dissatisfaction in some quarters to personal ambitions and irregular participation in party activities, noting that individuals who had been absent from meetings for months often found it difficult to secure leadership roles at short notice.
The Ward 1 Congress, held at Chude Girls Grammar School, produced Justice Erikefe Obosievwe as Chairman, alongside Osiebe Trust as Vice Chairman, Ezealaji Chukwuebuka as Secretary and Igie Kadiri Naomi as Assistant Secretary, among other officials.
Party sources said the Sapele exercise aligns with broader efforts to consolidate grassroots structures across Delta State, particularly within the district’s 85 wards, while residents interpret the outcome as a sign of strengthening collaboration between established party members and new entrants ahead of forthcoming elections.
