ASABA/Nigeria: The Maris Trust Council (MTC) has extended warm felicitations to renowned legal luminary and political leader, Olorogun Barr. Fred Majemite, as he marks his 62nd birthday, describing him as a bridge-builder and intellectual voice whose contributions to public discourse remain impactful.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Secretary of the Council, Comrade Fidelis Egugbo, fondly recalled Majemite’s role as a discussant at the maiden edition of the Maris Annual Public Service Lecture held on April 24, 2019, at the Orchid Hotel, Asaba. He said Majemite’s incisive analysis of governance and societal development during the lecture set a high benchmark for subsequent editions.
At the 2019 lecture, Majemite spoke on the topic, “Managing Post-Election Challenges: Nigeria as Case Study,” alongside notable personalities including former Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Stella Omu; political scientist, Dr. David Oba; and civil society advocate, Faith Nwadishi. The event featured Chief Williams Makinde as Keynote Speaker and Prof. Kemi Emina as Moderator, with former Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, as Special Guest of Honour. Chief Nicholas Chizea chaired the occasion, while Barr. Mrs. Josephine Ada Kachikwu served as Mother of the Day and Rev. Fr. John Konyeke as Spiritual Father of the Day.
Egugbo noted that Majemite’s birthday comes as preparations intensify for the 2026 edition of the Maris Annual Public Service Lecture, scheduled for April 1, 2026, at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba. This year’s lecture, described in some quarters as a “security summit,” will feature former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, as Keynote Speaker on the theme, “Insecurity: Bane of Nigeria’s Unity and Progress.”
According to the Council, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will serve as Distinguished Guest of Honour, while his predecessor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has confirmed attendance as Special Guest of Honour. The Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D, will be Guest of Honour. Former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dele Ezeoba, will chair the occasion, with Rear Admiral Mike Onah as Father of the Day and Princess Minnie Igbrude, Ph.D, as Mother of the Day. Other discussants include Prof. Hope Eghagha of the University of Lagos; Sir Mike Ejiofor, a former DSS Director; Ezinne Dr. Rosemary Ogabu, LSM; Hon. Warri Ovoke; and Rev. Fr. John Konyeke, with Prof. Kemi Emina serving as Moderator.
Describing Majemite as a beacon of hope and mentor to many, Egugbo said the legal practitioner’s intellectual depth and commitment to equity have defined his public life. “Barrister Majemite is a thinker whose ability to blend legal expertise with grassroots empathy makes him a rare asset,” he stated.
The Council joined family, friends and political associates in praying for continued health, strength and many more years of service for the celebrant. “At 62, Olorogun Majemite remains a symbol of wisdom and unwavering spirit. Happy 62nd birthday,” Egugbo said.
