ASABA/Nigeria: Mrs. Bridget Anyafulu has emerged as the sole candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Oshimili South Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections following her unopposed emergence at the party’s State House of Assembly primary election.
Anyafulu, who currently represents the constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, secured the party’s ticket during the primary election conducted on Wednesday as delegates across the 11 wards affirmed her candidature.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that party delegates voted in their respective wards to endorse Anyafulu as the APC standard bearer for the next general election.
The affirmation exercise was supervised by the Returning Officer for the primary election alongside party officials across the ward structures.
Declaring the result, the Returning Officer announced Anyafulu as the party’s candidate after fulfilling all requirements for emergence.
“It is my pleasure to announce to you Hon. Bridget Anyafulu having met the mandate of the party.
“It is my pleasure to declare Bridget Anyafulu as the candidate of our party for Oshimili South Constituency in the next general election,” he stated.
Speaking after the exercise, Anyafulu described the primary as peaceful, transparent and inclusive, commending the APC leadership for creating an enabling environment for members to participate freely in the process.
According to her, the outcome reflected the confidence and support she enjoys among party members and constituents.
“The overwhelming support from party members shows the confidence and acceptance I enjoy among my constituents,” she said.
The lawmaker also applauded the conduct of the primary, noting that the process reduced financial burdens often associated with elections and promoted wider participation.
She stated that the direct primary system gave ordinary party members the opportunity to freely choose their preferred candidates without intimidation.
According to Anyafulu, the exercise further demonstrated the steady growth of democracy in Nigeria through active citizen participation.
She stressed that sustained engagement with constituents remained the foundation for effective and accountable representation.
Speaking on expectations ahead of another term, the lawmaker assured constituents of improved representation and enhanced service delivery if re-elected.
She noted that lessons learnt from her first tenure would strengthen her performance and legislative contributions.
“Governance is a continuous learning process that requires constant interaction with the people,” she stated.
Anyafulu added that constructive criticism and continuous community engagement had helped shape her leadership approach.
She expressed satisfaction with the turnout recorded despite her emergence as a consensus candidate, describing it as evidence of her strong grassroots support across the constituency.
The lawmaker maintained that accessibility, patience and regular engagement with constituents remained critical to effective representation at all times.
