ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday offered thanksgiving to God over what he described as the peaceful and successful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections in the state, declaring that the process was devoid of crisis and violence.
The governor spoke during a morning devotion service at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, where he expressed gratitude to God for sustaining his administration and granting peace, unity and stability in the state.
Oborevwori said the thanksgiving service was to appreciate God for His faithfulness and for the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the recently concluded APC primaries across Delta State.
According to him, thanksgiving has always remained part of his personal tradition after every victory and milestone, stressing that gratitude to God should be a constant practice regardless of circumstances.
“First, I want to thank God today for keeping us to this day. Thank God for all that He has done for us and for the show of love that Deltans have shown to this administration,” the governor stated.
Quoting Psalm 100 verse 4, Oborevwori said believers are expected to enter God’s presence with thanksgiving and praise, adding that he had come to return all glory to God for making the peaceful outcome possible.
“So, I have come here to return the glory to God who has made everything possible. No crisis, no fights, nothing. Everything went peacefully,” he said.
The governor described the just-concluded primaries as one of the most peaceful electoral exercises witnessed in the state in recent times, noting that the experience contrasted sharply with previous election cycles.
Reflecting on past political experiences, Oborevwori recalled the tense atmosphere that characterised the 2022 primaries and said the smooth conduct of the recent exercise provided more reason for gratitude.
“If you know what we went through in the 2022 primaries, we have every reason to thank God that everything went well,” he added.
The governor also cautioned against idolising political leaders, reminding supporters that service to humanity and devotion to God should take precedence over political loyalty.
“You are not serving me, you are serving God. Salvation is personal,” he said.
Oborevwori further urged residents to remain thankful for life, good health and divine blessings, noting that wealth without sound health offers little value.
According to him, many people possess material resources but are unable to enjoy them due to health challenges.
The governor also appreciated individuals who have sustained regular prayer activities at the Government House Chapel, particularly the Monday-to-Friday prayer sessions.
He announced that the state government would hold its annual thanksgiving service on Friday as part of activities marking his third anniversary in office and to appreciate God for His guidance and blessings over the administration.
