ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has assured residents, particularly Muslim faithful, of adequate security arrangements ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration scheduled for Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, across the state.
The assurance was given by the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, who reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful, safe and hitch-free celebration for residents and visitors during the festive period.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Asaba.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the massive deployment of personnel across the state as part of proactive security measures to guarantee public safety during the celebration.
The deployment, the Command said, comprises officers and men drawn from Area Commands, Tactical Teams, Divisions and other operational units who will be stationed at strategic locations, Eid prayer grounds, major highways, recreational centres and other vulnerable points.
The Command further disclosed that it would collaborate closely with other security and safety agencies, including the Military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and other stakeholders to strengthen security coverage throughout the celebration.
CP Oyeniyi also directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to intensify intelligence gathering and operational activities within their areas of responsibility.
The measures include enhanced visibility policing, raids of criminal hideouts and black spots, stop-and-search operations where necessary, and sustained patrols aimed at preventing criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police said the proactive steps were designed to ensure residents celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festivities without fear or intimidation.
He also issued a stern warning to criminal elements to stay away from the state, assuring that the Command remained fully prepared to deal decisively with any threat to public peace and security.
CP Oyeniyi urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements, persons or activities through the Command Control Room on 08036684974.
The police boss, on behalf of officers and men of the Delta State Command, extended goodwill wishes to Muslim faithful and prayed for a peaceful and successful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
