ASABA/Nigeria: Residents and businesses across several communities in Delta State are set to experience daily electricity interruptions following the commencement of a major maintenance exercise by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) aimed at strengthening the nation’s power infrastructure.

TCN, in a statement released on Friday via its official social media platform, announced that the planned maintenance work at its Delta 132/33kV Transmission Substation began on June 4 and will continue until June 16, 2026.

According to the company, power supply will be temporarily interrupted each day between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to enable engineers carry out critical upgrades and rehabilitation works designed to improve the reliability and efficiency of electricity transmission within the region.

The company explained that the exercise involves the installation of a bus coupler circuit breaker and the rehabilitation of five isolators located on the main busbar of the substation. These components play a crucial role in ensuring smooth power distribution and maintaining operational stability across the transmission network.

As a result of the maintenance operation, several 33kV feeders supplied from both the Effurun and Delta 132/33kV Transmission Substations will remain temporarily out of service during the daily work period.

The affected feeders include Effurun, Warri, Sapele, Osubi, Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), PMSL, Refinery I, Refinery II, Enerhen, Isoko/Kwale, Otovwodo/Patani, Ughelli/Shell, Agbarho/Eku, Aladja, Imoniyame and Beta Glass feeders.

The temporary outage is expected to impact households, commercial centres, industries and other electricity consumers served by these feeders, particularly during peak daytime business hours.

However, TCN assured customers that the interruptions would only last for the duration of the maintenance activities each day, noting that electricity supply would be restored promptly by 5:00 p.m. to allow Benin Electricity Distribution Company (Benin DisCo) resume power delivery to consumers.

The transmission company stressed that the short-term inconvenience is necessary to achieve long-term improvements in service delivery, enhance grid stability and reduce the likelihood of unexpected equipment failures that could result in prolonged outages in the future.

While apologising to residents and businesses affected by the exercise, TCN appealed for patience and understanding throughout the maintenance period.

For many electricity consumers across Delta State, the announcement signals nearly two weeks of adjusted routines and business operations.

Yet, energy experts say the success of the maintenance project could ultimately strengthen power reliability in one of the state’s most economically active corridors. As engineers work against time to modernise critical infrastructure, residents will be hoping that the temporary darkness paves the way for a brighter and more stable electricity future.
