BADAGRY/Nigeria: The Archbishop of the Diocese of Badagry, United African Methodist Church, Rev. Matthew Olajonlu, has called on the Federal Government and security agencies to tackle Nigeria’s security challenges with sincerity, transparency and a greater commitment to protecting lives.

Olajonlu made the appeal during a press briefing ahead of the official inauguration of the Diocese of Badagry, which begins on Wednesday, July 9, saying efforts to combat insecurity should be driven by the national interest rather than political considerations.

According to the cleric, many communities across the country have continued to play their part in promoting peace despite the prevailing security challenges, stressing that government must complement those efforts with decisive action.

He expressed concern over the country’s security situation, urging authorities to avoid what he described as playing politics with the lives of Nigerians.

“The insecurity happening in our country is largely a result of politics, but I believe that where God has destined Nigeria to be, we will get there without political distractions,” he said.

The archbishop also called on Christians and Nigerians to embrace love, unity and selfless service as essential ingredients for national development and peaceful coexistence.

He said building a stronger society requires citizens to place compassion, integrity and righteousness above personal interests and divisions.

Speaking on the newly created diocese, Olajonlu said his administration would focus on strengthening the nine church circuits under its jurisdiction while investing in the spiritual growth and leadership development of young people.

He noted that empowering the younger generation remains critical to securing the future of both the church and society.

The cleric also paid tribute to members who had contributed to the growth of the diocese over the years, expressing appreciation for their sacrifices and commitment to the vision of the church.

He urged members to remain steadfast as the diocese begins a new phase of its mission and ministry.
