BUMWAN Applauds Adeniyi’s Tenure Extension, Re-election as WCO Council Chairman

PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: The Business and Maritime Writers’ Association of Nigeria (BUMWAN) has congratulated the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, on the extension of his tenure and his re-election as Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council.

The association described the development as a recognition of Adeniyi’s leadership in customs administration and international trade facilitation.

In a statement jointly signed by its National President, Peter Ihejirika, and National Secretary, Pastor Tony Nzekwe, and issued in Port Harcourt on Friday, BUMWAN said Adeniyi’s continued leadership at both the national and international levels reflects the confidence reposed in him by stakeholders.

According to the association, the Customs chief has demonstrated commitment to strengthening collaboration among stakeholders within the global trade ecosystem while promoting reforms aimed at improving customs administration and trade facilitation.

BUMWAN noted that since assuming office as Chairman of the WCO Council, Adeniyi has played a key role in advancing international cooperation and supporting initiatives designed to align customs operations with global trade standards and sustainable development objectives.

The association further commended what it described as his efforts to reposition the Nigeria Customs Service through institutional reforms and improved engagement with industry stakeholders.

It also urged operators and stakeholders in the maritime sector to support the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its revenue and trade facilitation objectives, including its projected revenue target of over ₦11 trillion for 2026.

The association reaffirmed its support for the Customs Service, expressing confidence that the ongoing reforms under Adeniyi’s leadership would further strengthen the sector and enhance Nigeria’s position in global trade.
