ASABA/Nigeria: An initiative that seeks to harness the influence of Afrobeat music and African culture to address drug abuse, empower young people and promote social cohesion will take centre stage in Asaba, Delta State, on Saturday, August 1, 2026, as stakeholders prepare for the maiden edition of the Afrobeat Cultural Festival.
The event is being organised by Gateway to Better Life Foundation Inc. in collaboration with DASH Foundation Inc., USA, and the Davido International Supporters Group (DIS-G). It is scheduled to hold at St. Patrick’s College, Nnebisi Road, Asaba, beginning at 12 noon.
According to the organisers, the festival is themed “Celebrating the Impact of Davido on African Music, Youth Culture and National Unity” and is intended to use the popularity of Afrobeat as a platform to promote positive social values, strengthen anti-drug advocacy and encourage healthier lifestyles among young people.
They said the programme would combine entertainment with advocacy through a series of activities, including a cultural parade, talent discovery, youth empowerment sessions, anti-drug awareness campaigns, musical performances, community recognition awards and a free medical outreach.
The organisers also disclosed that the festival would feature a special recognition of the contributions of Nigerian music star Davido to African music and youth inspiration, alongside the unveiling of the Davido Legacy Book, a publication documenting his influence on the continent’s entertainment industry, youth development and global cultural reach.
Participants are expected from the 25 local government areas of Delta State, as well as other parts of the country, with the organisers expressing confidence that the festival will encourage greater youth participation in community development while reinforcing the campaign against drug abuse.
The Convener of the festival, Ambassador (Rev.) Chukwudi Eke, and the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Comrade Sam Ijeh, who jointly signed a statement dated July 15, 2026, said the initiative is conceived as a platform for cultural celebration, social advocacy and community engagement.
