ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Ministry of Technical Education has ordered the redeployment of the Principal of Sapele Technical College, Mrs. Rosemary Itawansa, following what it described as serious administrative and disciplinary infractions.
The directive was contained in an official letter addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Directors and all Principals of technical colleges in the state, in which the Ministry disclosed that a monitoring exercise conducted on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, to assess compliance with the resumption of second-term academic activities at the Sapele institution uncovered several disturbing lapses.
According to the report, officials who visited the school at about 7:26 a.m. observed the absence of security personnel at the main gate, a bushy and poorly maintained environment, as well as unauthorised activities within the school premises, including farming and wood milling.
The Ministry further listed other alleged infractions to include the collection of exorbitant fees from students, refusal to comply with approved teaching guidelines for trade courses, lack of administrative competence in supervising the school and the aiding and abetting of “ghosting” by National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the college.
It was also recalled that the affected principal had, on several occasions, received verbal warnings over her conduct in the administration of the school but reportedly failed to effect the required corrections. The Ministry cited a previous directive conveyed in a letter dated January 19, 2024 (Ref. No. MTE/SQA/82/33), which posted her to Model Technical College, Obiaruku, but was allegedly disobeyed.
A subsequent query issued to the principal and her response, in which political commitments were cited as reasons for non-compliance with the redeployment directive, were also referenced by the Ministry.
Consequently, in line with established disciplinary procedures, the Ministry approved her redeployment from Sapele Technical College to the Ministry of Technical Education in Asaba for further posting. She has been directed to hand over to the most senior teacher in the college and report for duty at the Ministry on Monday, January 19, 2026.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to upholding high standards of discipline, accountability and professionalism across all technical colleges in Delta State, stressing that acts of insubordination or administrative misconduct would not be condoned under any circumstances.
