ASABA/Nigeria: Newly trained police cadets of Delta State origin have been urged to earn public trust through integrity, professionalism and respect for the rule of law as they formally begin their careers in the Nigeria Police Force.
The charge was given on Wednesday at Government House, Asaba, when the cadets were received following their successful completion of training at the Nigeria Police Academy by Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.
Congratulating the cadets on what he described as a remarkable milestone, the governor said graduating from the Police Academy was a clear reflection of discipline, resilience, patience and commitment, noting that the journey into policing demands a high sense of responsibility and sacrifice.
He reminded the young officers that they had chosen a noble but demanding profession that requires dedication, integrity and professionalism at all times, stressing that their conduct must reflect the core values of justice, fairness and selfless service.
“You are special to this state, and we are proud of you,” the governor said, adding that the Nigeria Police Academy has over the years produced outstanding officers who have distinguished themselves within the Police Force and other sister security agencies.
Governor Oborevwori urged the cadets to ensure that their actions inspire confidence in the communities they will serve, noting that public trust remains central to effective policing and sustainable peace.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to security, he said Delta State has recorded significant improvements in safety and security over the past two years, assuring that the state government would continue to support security agencies to consolidate the gains and do more.
He encouraged the cadets, whom he described as energetic and familiar with the local terrain, to serve diligently and remain steadfast in protecting the lives and property of Deltans and other residents.
To further motivate them, the governor announced the approval of the payment of monthly allowances for the cadets with effect from January, and wished them a successful, impactful and fulfilling career in service to Delta State and the nation.
Responding on behalf of the cadets, the President of the Police Cadets, Collins Akpevweoghene, thanked the governor for the warm reception and encouragement, describing the engagement as a demonstration of people-centred leadership and genuine concern for security and youth development.
He commended Governor Oborevwori for the improvements recorded in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare and youth empowerment under his administration, noting that such achievements have strengthened public confidence in governance.
ASP Akpevweoghene assured the governor of the cadets’ unwavering commitment to professionalism, integrity and selfless service, while praying for continued wisdom, good health and strength for the governor as he leads Delta State to greater heights.
