AWKA/Nigeria: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed concern over what it described as a disturbing decline in discipline and professionalism among some of its field commands nationwide, warning that acts of misconduct threaten the integrity of the agency.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, sounded the warning during a sensitisation visit to the Anambra State Command in Awka on Tuesday. He was represented at the event by Assistant Corps Marshal Winifred Chukwurah, Commandant of the FRSC Academy, Udi, Enugu State.

Mohammed said recent operational reports had revealed troubling patterns of misconduct and unethical practices by some personnel in the field. He cited cases involving abuse of authority, extortion and reckless enforcement behaviour, describing the trend as worrisome and unacceptable.

According to him, such actions pose a serious threat to the credibility and public image of the Corps, undermining the values on which the organisation was built.

“Every act of unprofessional conduct damages the image of thousands of disciplined officers and weakens the confidence Nigerians have built in the Corps over the years,” he said.

The Corps Marshal stressed that indiscipline and unethical conduct would no longer be tolerated, adding that decisive measures were being implemented to restore order, reinforce accountability and strengthen command and control structures across all commands.

He reiterated that extortion, harassment and abuse of authority were illegal and amounted to a betrayal of the oath sworn by personnel, insisting that discipline and professionalism must remain non-negotiable in the service.

Mohammed urged officers and men of the Corps to recommit themselves to the principles of integrity, fairness and respect for human dignity in the discharge of their duties.

Earlier in her remarks, the Anambra State Sector Commander, Mrs Bridget Asekhauno, called on officers to take the Corps Marshal’s directive seriously and uphold the highest standards of conduct in line with the FRSC’s mandate.
