ASABA/Nigeria: The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has felicitated with Dr. Fidelia Chukwudumebi Ighrakpata following her appointment as the new Provost of the College of Education, Warri, describing her elevation as a landmark achievement in the institution’s history.
Guwor said the appointment of Dr. Ighrakpata, the first internally appointed female Provost of the college since its establishment in 1979, was a reward for years of commitment, hard work and outstanding contributions to academic development within the institution.
In a congratulatory message issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, the Speaker noted that Dr. Ighrakpata’s nearly three decades of experience in the college had adequately prepared her for the leadership responsibility.
The Delta Assembly Speaker, who also chairs the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, stated that her emergence reflected the confidence placed in her administrative competence, professionalism and dedication to educational advancement.
He expressed confidence that the new Provost would bring her wealth of knowledge and experience to bear in repositioning the institution for greater academic excellence and institutional stability.
According to Guwor, the Delta State House of Assembly would continue to support policies and programmes aimed at strengthening tertiary education and improving learning standards across the state.
“The 8th Assembly under my leadership will continue to collaborate with the executive arm to ensure that educational institutions receive the support required for infrastructural development, staff training and quality academic delivery,” he said.
The Speaker further stressed that education remains a critical pillar of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, adding that the legislature would continue to provide the necessary legislative backing to improve the sector.
He described teacher education as fundamental to sustainable human capital development and urged stakeholders to continue supporting institutions responsible for training future educators.
Guwor also congratulated Dr. Ighrakpata for attaining what he described as the peak of her professional career within the institution and wished her a successful and impactful tenure as Provost.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori recently approved the appointment of Dr. Ighrakpata as Provost of the College of Education, Warri.
Her appointment is also viewed as symbolic, coming 24 years after her late father, Professor Alfred Unomah, served as the third substantive Provost of the institution.
