ASABA/Nigeria: The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, has congratulated the Pere of Ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty King Oboro Gbaraun II, JP, on his inauguration as Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Institute for Niger Delta Studies (INDS), Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State.
Guwor, in a congratulatory message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, described the monarch’s appointment as a recognition of his leadership qualities and longstanding commitment to the development of the Niger Delta.
The Speaker said the new responsibility further reflected the traditional ruler’s experience, character and understanding of the complex issues confronting the region.
He expressed confidence that the monarch would provide effective leadership for the advisory council and contribute to advancing the objectives of the Institute.
“I am confident that under your chairmanship, the INDS will be taken to greater heights and make more enduring impact in line with the objectives for which it was established,” Guwor said.
According to the Speaker, King Gbaraun II brings to the position considerable knowledge of the Niger Delta, as well as leadership experience that could strengthen the Institute’s efforts in research and regional development.
He noted that the monarch’s understanding of the region would be particularly valuable as the Institute pursues its mandate.
Guwor also conveyed his congratulations on behalf of his family, the people of Warri South-West Constituency and members of the Delta State House of Assembly, wishing the monarch a successful tenure.
“Congratulations, Your Majesty!” he added.
The monarch’s inauguration as chairman of the advisory council has also been described by other stakeholders as a recognition of his leadership and commitment to peace and sustainable development in the Niger Delta.
